I have a mentorship mastermind of courageous, determined humans who are ready to commit to becoming the change they wish to see in the world. I call it the Vibrant Visionary Collective. The following is our manifesto.
Rule #1 of the Collective: You must show up for yourself first.
Every action that you take in the Collective must first and foremost be. for. you.
Not to help others grow.
Not because you feel guilty for not showing up.
Not to make other people happy. Or to avoid letting others down.
You must show up to the Collective knowing that you are here to receive support. You are here to heal. You are here to grow. And you are here to evolve.
In fact, the only true way to help others in the Collective is to do precisely what you came here to do: to work on yourself.
Deconditioning from glorified self-sacrifice
Everyone says they want to change the world. Make the world a better place. Help other people.
Few people remember to include themselves in the outcome. Instead, we are taught to glorify self-sacrifice for the "greater good." And that focusing on our own interests and desires is selfish, and therefore bad.
Ironic that we want our children to pursue their wildest dreams, while feeling guilty for having our own, isn't it?
And isn't it strange when down the line, after years of our noble sacrifice, that we find ourselves resenting those who we sacrificed for, even though it was our own choice to begin with?
We all have heard the expression of giving from an empty cup versus giving from a cup overflowing. We've all seen the airplane safety manual that says to put your oxygen mask on first, so that you don't pass out and die before you help put it on others. Yet, when it comes to making choices about own lives, we get so caught up in whether our parents, our spouse, or our peers will approve.
I'm not saying don't help others. I'm saying, wouldn't it be amazing to be able to help others from a place of abundance and overflow from a life where you are fully supported, fulfilled, and resourced? Where the reason why you help others is because you are living a life you love, one that you feel you were born to live?
Now here's the big question: Who do you think is responsible for making sure that you are fully supported, fulfilled and resourced?
The key to being the change you wish to see in the world lies in the BECOMING.
The reason why the #1 rule of the Collective is to show up for yourself first is because there is profound truth in the saying "be the change you wish to see in the world."
If you want a world full of music, become a musician. A musician hears music everywhere because he empowers himself to create it.
If you want a world full of adventure, become a wandering traveler. Adventures come to her because she opens herself up to discovery.
In order to be the change you wish to see in the world, you must see that change starts with you.
Martyrdom is unworkable in the Collective
Each and every member has a different reason for being in the Collective. Each member is becoming the change they wish to see in the world.
Martyrdom is unworkable in the Collective. In a world that rewards the performative, it's too easy to slip back into thinking that you're in here for someone else.
The Collective is your container to practice being responsible for making sure that you are fully supported, fulfilled and resourced. It is where we give ourselves full permission to prioritize and love ourselves completely.
That is where the becoming starts: when you choose yourself first.
Curious about the Collective?
Email me at [email protected] to get the conversation started and tell me what resonated here for you. We'll open up a conversation to see if working together is a good fit. Thank you for reading, and for showing up for you!
